February 25 promises to be a real feast for the senses to brighten up the greyest winter day. The Michel, one of the finest Baroque churches in northern Germany, will be the venue for a performance of Handel's great oratorio, The Messiah, composed in 1741. Sung in the original English by the Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg, it's an event not to be missed. If you're planning to take part in the Scratch Messiah on 2 December as part of the…

This Saturday, 28 January, is the first concert in the series to celebrate 400 years of the Anglican Church in Hamburg. Given by Ensemble Schirokko, it promises to be a feast of Baroque music from around the time the Merchant Adventurers, who founded the church, were flourishing in Hamburg.
The young ensemble's CD, Schirokkos Seereisen, was selected ‘CD der Woche’ by NDR and captures the listener with its 'extraordinary sense of sound, imaginative playing and great precision'. This is…

Wandering through the Karo-Viertel - on route, no doubt, to a Royal Wedding shindig at the Rota Flora -
it will have been impossible for you to have missed the rapturous blue sailing ship posters, adorning
the outside of the delightful Centrosociale - The Story Boat's new venue - in the Sternschanze.
While the fine art work's quite worthy of the eschelons of Bridfas, the stories are what count - and they're a scream.
Hear tales of trouser-chasing,…

Geee, where to start. After all the illness I am HAPPY to be feeling like my old self again. Unfortunately, things are not going well at the store. I can see the cultural differences a lot clearer. I have been open since March 13th, 2010. It was one of the happiest days in my life when I greeted and served my very first customer. I felt like I had found my purpose and had a renewed sense of pride. To be able to say this is my store and with the help of my Partner and family none of it…

Wow! The holidays are over and I cant say that I´m not happy about it. Oh, don´t get me wrong I love the holiday season, but this year was more stressful than usual. It was fraught with illnesses and severe bouts of homesickness and lots of family time. The store was closed to give me time to recover from my surgery the the first week of December. After being home from the hospital for 2 days, I was hit with a lung infection and Pneumonia...geesh. I got over that after about a week and…

Of course I was not able to come back to the store when I had planned. Today is my first day back and I´m feeling better, not quite 100% yet but getting there....cough cough cough. Its just amazing to me how much sickness I´ve had this year, not to mention the last few months. Every germ in Hamburg has decided to come live with me. …
